How to Get a Banana Tree to Landscape

Banana trees are kind of an odd idea to decorate with. It’s a tropical tree that unfortunately can’t be grown everywhere. Ideally, this tree needs a temperature of over 85 degree with a humidity of over 50%. Banana trees will die easily if it frosts outside so be careful. It’s plant that can really add a little tropical flair to yard though if you have the opportunity to grow it.

There are a couple decisions that need to be made when picking out a banana tree for your yard. First, is the size. They can either be tall and lanky, potentially overshadowing the house, or short and stalky. Also, you need to decide if you wish to be able to eat the fruit that the tree grows. If it is simply there for decoration purposes then maybe the more expensive edible versions of the tree aren’t necessary for your needs.

We also need to figure out where we’d like to place the banana tree in the yard.  A good spot shouldn’t have a lot of shade, which will keep the sun off the plant and stunt growth. In addition, protection from wind and water drainage should be a priority.

To buy the plant, you should go to an established tree farm. They’ll have a tree already partially grown and nursed to health, cutting down the amount of time it will take to get it grown in the backyard. This way you simply have to take the tree out of the pot that it was delivered in, loosen up the roots, and place the tree into the ground. At this point it rather simple really, water the banana tree and fertilize it to help the roots take hold in their new home.
