Doing any sort of work around a pool can be tricky work because of the risk of damage or the clean up that will be necessary in the future. Trees can dump leaves into the water that need to be cleaned out constantly. Ideally, you’ll want to place a pool in a large clearing that won’t get debris falling into it.

To successfully landscape around a pool you’ll have to think a little differently. Low lying plants and shrubs are a good way to start. These can be planted away from the pool and their short stature won’t allow any debris fall far from the plant. Potted flowers is another good idea. The pots can be of decorative qualities that can aid in the landscaping view, plus, if you like to change things up often, you have the option to do that by planting different flowers whenever you’d like.

Avoid plants that require a lot of chemicals in order to either grow or be protected from chemicals. Having these kinds of sprays and such floating into the pool with you is not a good idea. A little bit isn’t likely to do much damage, it is always better safe then sorry. Another note, avoid anything that can drop anything sticky. It’s a mess to clean up in typical situations but around a pool it can be a mess.

Keeping with the theme of safety, particularly child safety, don’t plant flowers that have a tendency to attract stinging insects. Bumble bees and wasps are the worse and aren’t welcome near where your kids are likely going to be playing. These have been just a few suggestions on what to avoid when landscaping around a pool. Hopefully, you follow this advice and make things easier on yourself in the future.
